January 2008
2008, The Year in Preview
The future sounds bright with a whopping five new titles confirmed
for the first half of 2008. To top it all off, Zip Records will be
hosting a "Zip Records Night" at the Cutting Room in New
York on March 5, 2008. Featuring artists introducing their new albums,
the triple bill includes Smash Palace, Edward Rogers and Baldwin
Drive. Melodic pop music of the highest caliber (unless you drink
too much) this will be a night to remember!
We'll be supplying the hype in the coming weeks, but for now, the
cold, hard facts:
| January 2008 - Smash
Palace "Everybody Comes and Goes" |
| February 2008 - Gigantic (Perth,
Australia) "Gigantaphonic Sounds" |
| March 2008 -

(with special guests Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, Marty Willson-Piper
of The Church, Dennis Diken of The Smithereens, etc.) |

Later in 2008, Birgit's
second full length, the return of LA's "Sterling" and others
that will surprise us all.
Distribution
Deal with Red Distribution
Effective
January 1, 2008, Zip Records is happy to announce a distribution
deal with RED
Distribution. Based in New York, RED will be handling physical
and digital distribution in North America.
The opportunity for an increase of visibility is a "call to arms" for
our exciting line up of 2008 releases and most of the existing Zip Records catalog
has been picked up as well.
October 2007
All New, All Great, All
East Coast
A triple header of American pop bands are looming on the Zip release
horizon! All new, all great and all East Coast.
First to drop is the follow up by Smash Palace due out in early
November.
Entitled "Everybody Comes and Goes", these all new tracks
come in the wake of the successful "Best of '99-06". All
the classic guitar pop trademarks are here in abundance. Lilting
melodies and epic vocals make the Philadelphia area band a year end
treat for all to hear.
In January 2008, two New York City legends make their Zip Records'
debut.
Edward Rogers is a familiar name in the pantheon of the NY pop
faithful, and he joins forces with several other notables to create
wistful, bittersweet and timeless songs. The tracks on "You
Haven't Been Where I've Been" hooked us so bad at Zip that we're
black and blue from pinching ourselves at the opportunity to release
these pop masterpieces.
Last but not least is Baldwin Drive. Also based in New York, and
the mastermind of Joe "Pajamas" Chiofalo, Baldwin Drive
is the only virgin band in the trio of these new releases. Their
debut album is everything you could wish for in the sophisticated
pop genre. It's so radio friendly that you'll kiss your speakers
and fondle the volume knob. Want another reason to search this one
out? With a few months remaining in 2007, the word on the street
is that Baldwin Drive is on the short list for best pop album of
2008! Wow.
June 2007
For 2007, Zip Records will continue
to release a mélange
of music. You are helpless to stop us.
Daring, Danceable, and Dangerous Bands!
Another bumper crop of amazing bands from the UK are getting the
Zip Records treatment. They are daring, danceable and dangerous.
One at a time, we have the prototypical UK rock band from Leeds – Xi.
The common thread among Zip releases, regardless of genre, is a keen
sense of melody. Xi has it and critics are lauding the band for their
impressive alt rock packed with riffs and hooks.
"Faceless" soundtrack
Autons are a south coast
electro pop trio who “combine snotty punk melodies and ear-splitting
guitar riffs”. Pop/punk music you can dance to may not be unusual
in 2007, but how many times do you want to dance to the SAME song
over and over? Listen to Autons and find out. They are also totally
fun.
"Snakes" soundtrack
The Torpedoes are coming in late 2007 and we can
hardly wait to let this one out of the bag. It is pure thievery that
a relatively wee label like Zip gets to exploit this band to the
masses. Damn the Torpedoes because they are surfacing soon to blow
a hole in you sweet aft.
Forthcoming albums from the Chevelles
Our
lineage of guitar pop will live on with the Perth (Australia) wunderkinds “The
Chevelles”.
Autons, electro pop royalty

Autons
are an accident waiting
to happen.
What about the UK? How about a full length from electro pop
royalty “Autons”?
A coup for Zip, Autons are an accident waiting to happen. |

The Shambles are rockin'
An accident
which already happened are The Shambles from San Diego-international
men of pop mastery. The Shambles have a worldwide niche, a niche
the size of a large American city and they remain quite active (to
put mildly).
Beatmites debut album
|
With no intention
to convert guitar pop lovers to hip hop, sometimes an opportunity
comes along that is too good to be true.
In our own backyard of San Francisco live two geniuses who
have captured the excitement and force of hip hop like few
others. Entitled “The Package”, Namawu Records
and Zip Records have collaborated to present production group “The
Beatmites” debut album and the 18 tracks have
humbly converted us to a genre that is more addictive than
bubblegum music. With the exception of South London’s “Fully
Blunt”, all artists are from the Bay Area and since
Zip Records is exploiting its international connections on
this release, we leave you with this question…will
Europeans dig this Bay Area shit? ABSOLUTELY! |

The temptress Birgit
|
Birgit has
smitten us with her songs of love, longing and the joys of
being alive!
And then……there is Birgit.
Actress, singer, songwriter, temptress, she is a legend not
only because she only goes by one name. |
Mere words and hype can’t convey the emotional
kick one receives from each song on the mid 2007 release of “True
Stories I Made Up”. Ooh la la!
