The Zip Records night at the Cutting Room was a titillating
affair! The following report is the perfect mix of objective
reporting and unabashed hype.
To start things off a full house was treated to the classic
pop stylings of Smash
Palace. They were great! There they were…in
the flesh delighting the audience with tracks off their new
album.
Next up…Ed
Rogers with not only a full band but a string
section to die for. Ed previewed tunes from his new album “You
Haven’t Been Where I’ve Been” ( soundtrack).
Proving that his contributions on the album was no fluke, George
Usher helped to kick each song into just the right gear. Tender
ballads were mixed with what can only be labeled rock songs
with perceivable jangle.
The room was warmed up. Wasting little time, Joe Chiofalo
(Joey Pajamas) and his band Baldwin Drive took the stage. With
no resemblance to Elton John, Joe led the band through one
hit after another from the upcoming debut “Orange & Black”.
Was it rock? Was it pop? No stranger to melodies, Baldwin Drive
made the audience temporarily forget that Joey Pajamas (aka
Joseph Chiofalo) is the bawdy purveyor of parody on the Howard
Stern show! A well-deserved encore capped the set and sadly
it was over. Three hours of near bliss.

The Story of Zip Records
Begun during the late 90’s, Zip Records is a San Francisco based
totally independent record label. The perks of being independent has
allowed the Zip imprint to release a varied menu of genres. Like a
proud parent, we can boast of at least having a hand in the process
of the ever-maturing world of popular music. Whether rock, guitar pop,
surf, punk, reggae, singer/songwriter, or whatever… it all
fits on the label.
